Roy Goodman White November 13, 1949 – September 12, 2022 A Tribute from his Wife: In Roy’s heart, his mind, and his soul, he was a seeker of God. This drove all that he thought and did. He swam in spiritual reality like fish do water. Finding truth wherever it presented itself was his highest goal. He honored truth, beauty, and goodness with his life. He was a gifted poet, expressing his daily life’s joys and struggles in poetic verse. He was a loyal and devoted husband and his wife’s best friend. He encouraged everything in others that drew them to be the “image of God in man” we all should aspire to be. A Tribute from his Children: Roy Goodman White was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on November 13, 1949, the first child to parents Lutricia Goodman White and Dr. Roy Sidney White. As Dr. White was in medical school, Naval service, and residency in Roy’s early childhood years, the family moved from Tuscaloosa to Anaheim, California and New Orleans, Louisiana through the late 1950s. The family returned to Tuscaloosa in 1960 as Dr. White began his medical career. Roy graduated from Indian Springs School in 1968 and began studies at the University of Alabama that year. He was a member of Delta Chi social fraternity and active in the Student Life Association. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.A. in English in 1972. With a desire to pursue ministry, he entered Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, then transferred to Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1973. He earned a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Louisville in 1976. He and his family returned to Tuscaloosa in 1978. He worked for the University of Alabama Department of Continuing Education, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and taught Old Testament, New Testament, Philosophy, Ethics, and Religion courses at Shelton State Community College for many years. Roy loved reading, writing, poetry, and music. He was a gifted orator, writer, and teacher. In his retirement, he spent time writing poetry and other literature, studying the Bible, and sharing writings with his children.
