Obituary

William Steven Friday, “Steve”, age 79, of Livingston, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hadden Presbyterian Church in Boyd, Alabama. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Rev. Mike Spencer. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home will be directing the service.

Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, educator, and servant of his community. He proudly served 20 years in the National Guard, dedicated over 30 years to the field of education, and faithfully taught Sunday School for more than 30 years.

Outside of his professional and church life, he found great joy in the outdoors. He had a lifelong love of turkey and duck hunting and spent many cherished hours fishing, often sharing these passions with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Barbara Boyd Friday, His son Steven Friday (Suni) and daughter Sarah Frances Friday Richardson (Mark), both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Nothing brought him greater joy than his four granddaughters, Mary Allen Richardson, Sophie Bell Friday, Silvie Briggs Friday, and Stevie Blair Boyd Friday, who affectionately called him Papa.

He is also survived by his siblings Kathy Glass (Harvey), David Friday (Donna), and Marilyn Floyd; his brothers-in-law Ed Boyd (Cathy) and Ben Boyd, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Gail Williams, and his parents, Gwendolyn and William Hoyt Friday.

Pallbearers will be Will Boyd, Allen Rolison, James Boyd, William Glass, Jojo Glass, Michael Harrell, Robert Thomas Floyd, Eddie Mason, Will Eddins, and Paul Booker

Honorary Pallbearers will be Alan Hall, Chester Pugh, Pierce Boyd, Jackie Warbington, Ed Mason, Fred Rogers, Ron Simmons, Thomas (Puddin) McDaniel, and Bruce Cook.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or a charity of your choice.
