Vina Walden

March 27, 1927 — February 20, 2019

Vina Gilreath Walden, age 89 of Kennedy, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Laura Gilreath; brothers, Roy Gilreath, Clanton Gilreath, Lando Gilreath, Grady Gilreath, and Wilson Ray Gilreath; sisters, Margie Rushing, Gladys Brown, and Hazel Brown. Mrs. Walden is survived by her husband, James Walden of Kennedy; daughter, Kay Thompson (Danny) of Kennedy; grandchildren, Danielle McCraney (Mark) and Beth Thomas (Jeremy); great-grandchildren, Ethan McCraney, Lucas McCraney, Brooklyn Thomas, Jake Thomas, and Bella Thomas. She was the daughter of the late Wilson Gilreath and Laura Estes Gilreath. She was born March 27, 1929 at her home in the Cody Community of Lamar County. Mrs. Walden was a graduate of Kennedy High School. She married James Walden in 1947. She and her husband served in ministry at numerous Free Will Baptist Churches for almost sixty years. They served in Marion, Lamar, Walker, and Shelby counties. Vina loved sewing and cooking. Pallbearers will be Frankie Beasley, Ricky Owens, Tony Taylor, David Harrison, Billy Rogers, James Cole, Dillard Matthews, and Phil Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Mt. Harmony FWB Church and members of Senior Adult Sunday School class.
