Travis Eugene Wright

Travis Eugene Wright went to live with God on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan. Services for Mr. Wright will be Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel, at 1:00 p.m. He will lie in state one hour prior to service time. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.He was the youngest child born to the late Albert and Mable Wright on December 9, 1964. Travis was born in Fayette, Alabama, surrounded by a caring community that supported his growth and development.

Travis accepted Christ at an early age through baptism and became a member of the Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Fayette, Alabama where he was an active member until his graduation from high school. At his death, Travis was a resident of Detroit, Michigan where he had lived since 1996.

Travis graduated from Fayette County High School in 1983. He loved football and played from the 7th to 12th grade. His teammate affectionately nick-named him “Big Dollar.” During the 1981-1982 school year, as a Junior, Travis was voted Most Handsome at the Fayette County High School Coronation. Travis continued his education after high school, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Tennessee State University in 1990.

Travis was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served from 1992 to 1995. During his military service he was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska in the 56th MP Company. After his honorable discharge, Travis started his work career in Detroit, Michigan.

Travis is preceded in death by his mother Mable, father, Albert R., sister Deborah, and a bonus brother Rickey.

To cherish his memory, Travis leaves two brothers: David Wright (Kelli), Albert C. Wright (Ylonda); one sister, Betty (Claron) Johnson; two aunts: Peggy Ann (James) Haley and Ruby Lee Smith. The memories of “Uncle Trav” will be cherished by his nieces and nephews: Michael Wright, Kathryn Wright, Alondria Wright, Malcolm Johnson, Zyra Wright, Marcus Johnson, and Myles Johnson. Many cousins, extended family and friends will warmly remember the smile of Travis Eugene Wright.
