Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Harold Watson and Nona Alberta Watson; her sister Ann Arden Mullins; her husband James Edwards Woods; and her son Douglas Richard Woods.
She is survived by her son Scott Edward Woods (Lisa) and her daughter in law, Jill Woods. She is also survived by her grandchildren Turner Woods Cargile (Cody), James Edwards Woods II (Anna), Caitlyn Woods Adams (Brooks), Sarah Corbett Woods, Nicholas Scott Woods, and John Douglas Woods.
Sharon was born and raised in Colorado, where she met her soul mate James Edward Woods at Denver East High. They began dating in college after Ed rescued her from the side of the road after her car broke down. Married in September of 1954 in Denver Colorado. They moved several times for Ed’s work and started their family in Rochester NY with the birth of their sons and the beginning of Ed’s career in the paper business. Sharon and her family moved to Tuscaloosa in 1969, where she was very active in many charitable organizations. One event dear to her heart was the equestrienne show that took place in what now is the Northriver Yacht Club’s golf course for the benefit of the Junior League.
Sharon was known for being generous, fun, and loving; she counted all her blessings and was always so grateful for all of life’s special moments. When her sons were growing up, she was recognized as the favorite “neighborhood mom;” and as her boys grew up and began their own families, she became the ideal “Nana” to her six grandchildren and then became an extra special “GG Nana” to her five great grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling the world with family and friends, listening to classical music like Mozart and Andrea Bocelli, collecting beautiful art and antiques, loving on little dogs, especially black and tan dachshunds; and sitting outside on a lovely day enjoying flowers and bird watching.
Sharon and Ed had two places they considered home, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Highlands, North Carolina. They began visiting the Highlands in the early 1980’s and decided to build their second home there in 1992.
Sharon’s family wants to extend a generous heartfelt thank you to all that loved and cared for her, especially Hospice Care of West AL and the nurses from Home RN.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, North Carolina, or West AL Hospice.
