Mary Ruth Shepherd

Mary Ruth Barnes Shepherd, age 81, of Berry, Ala., passed away April 5, 2019 at her home. Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Berry United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Berry City Cemetery with Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, JC Shepherd; her parents, Alice and Ralph Barnes; and her brothers, Randall and Leland Barnes.  She is survived by her two sons, John Phillip Shepherd (Cindy) and William David Shepherd (Nancy), granddaughters, Maryalice Shepherd Hocutt (Cody), Linnie Frances Shepherd, Hanna Vivian Shepherd, grandson, Scott Shepherd, great-grandchildren, Phillip Hughston Shepherd, John Coger Shepherd, Ryder Dale Hocutt, Reed David Hocutt, nephews Clay Barnes and Will Barnes, and niece, Allyson Barnes Westbrook. Mary Ruth was born on May 12, 1937 in Berry, Alabama. She was a supportive and loving wife to JC since 1953. She was a Board member and Shareholder of the Bank of Berry, Bank of Parrish, and the Bank of Carbon Hill.  Mary Ruth served her community as a member of the Berry United Methodist Church, Berry Women’s Club and various other groups and organizations in the City of Fayette and City of Berry. She was a devoted Mother to her two sons Phil and David Shepherd. She will be truly missed by her family and friends who loved her. Pallbearers will be Clay Barnes, Will Barnes, Mack Henry, Lynn Henry, Mike Moore, and Hughston Shepherd.  The family would like to thank those who were so loving and patient with Mary Ruth.  They would like to extend special love and gratitude to Mary Thacker and Debbie Harper and extend thanks to SouthernCare New Beacon that took such exceptional care of her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Berry United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
