Mary Sue Newman, age 81 of Belk AL, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her residence. Services for Mrs. Newman will be Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Bro. Lamar Cox will be officiating the service. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service. 

In loving memory of Mary Sue Newman, age 81, who passed away on April 18, 2024 at her residence in Belk, AL. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Mary was born October 8, 1942 in Lamar County Alabama. She attended school at Belk Junior High School and Kennedy High School. She was married to her beloved husband, Armon Newman for 65 years. She was a member of Belk Freewill Baptist Church for many years. In her earlier years, she served her community on Belk Town Council as clerk for a number of years and also affectionately was nicknamed “Chief of Police” by some local towns people.

Mary enjoyed flower gardening, decorating, puzzles, and spending time with her family. She loved going to the beach with her grands and great grands. She was a sweet, kind, loving and caring lady with a great sense of humor. She was deeply loved by all her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Mary is proceeded in death by her husband, Armon Newman; her parents, Roy and Ila Gilreath; brother, James Roy Gilreath; sister, Louise Thomas; sister-in-law, Katie Pendley Gilreath.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Wayne Newman (Regina) of Belk and Nick Newman (Pam) of Kennedy; two daughters, Jamie Newman Boothe (Benny Wright) of Bankston and Vickie Newman Franks (Daniel Haney) of Fayette; one brother, Billy Gilreath of Northport; Grandchildren: Summer House (David) of Vacaville, CA, Jena Newman of Rogersville AL, Koby Newman of Belk AL, Harley Hubbert (Tyler) of Northport AL, Cameron Franks (Sabrina) of Belk AL, Trey Boothe of Belk AL, and Cruz Franks (Zoey Thomas) of Belk AL; Great grandchildren: Kaylee, Kylie, and Laci Kay Franks of Belk AL, Ryder and Brenlynn House of Vacaville CA, Quinn Hubbert of Northport AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Koby Newman, Cameron Franks, Cruz Franks, Trey Boothe, David House, and Tyler Hubbert.
