Obituary

Linda Hock Heyd (“Marmie”), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in Tuscaloosa, AL, on January 30, 2026. A visitation will be held at 1:30pm and funeral liturgy at 2:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa on Friday, February 6th. A private family interment will follow at the Holy Spirit Columbarium Garden. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.

Born on November 15, 1940, in New Orleans, LA, Linda was a bright presence in the lives to all who knew her. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she devoted her life to nurturing them with unwavering love while setting the example of a true and faithful Christian life. She will be affectionately remembered for always having a warm, home-cooked meal on hand, sharing her love for singing (and teasing how she missed her chance to be famous), enjoying social dances and outings with her husband and friends, playing games and laughing with the children. Her caring, loving, and generous spirit made her an irreplaceable part of her family and the lives she touched.

While Linda has lived in Tuscaloosa for nearly 20 years, New Orleans, LA was her home through childhood and much of her adult life. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School and was a long-term employee of the New Orleans Times Picayune, where she worked as a Classified Advertising Representative.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Erwin Hock. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edmond Francis Heyd, Jr. (“Poppi”), her daughters Sharon (John) Lagarde, Laurie (Jack) Mitchell, Kerri (Ivan) Bryant, grandchildren Sarah (Blake), Katie (Devin), Brittney (Austin), Emily, Zachary (Shelby), Amelie, Annie, Maddie, and Mollie, six great grandchildren, and her sister, Deborah Terrebonne.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Heritage Health Care & Rehab and Hospice of West Alabama for their compassion and dedicated care of Linda during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made In Honor of Linda Heyd to BrightStone (BrightStone.org) or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (StJude.org).
