Obituary

Mrs. Liberay McVay Tubbs LeGrone was born April 1, 1935 in Brent, AL to the Late Aurthur and late Mary McVay. She was called to glory to be with her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2026 at her home. Services for Mrs. LeGrone will be Saturday, January, 31, 2026, at Friendship Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at 11:00 a.m. She will Lie in State one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Cedar Oak Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Henderson and Dr. Rev. Jeffery Thompson will be officiating the service. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.

Liberay received her education through the Tuscaloosa City School System at Industrial High School. She started her walk with Christ at Beulah Baptist Church and later joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Myron Hamner Sr.

Liberay has been a hard-working independent woman her entire life. She started as a domesticated worker in her teens and later joined Hayes Chapel then Heritage Funeral Home, where she remained for 29 years. After retiring, Liberay joined the Foster Grandparent program through FOCUS for Seniors. She faithfully served the children of Tuscaloosa at Hillcrest, Northington, and Arcadia schools for 17 years. At 90, she was able to continue her love of yard work until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aurthur and Mary McVay; sisters, Annie L. McVay, Mary S. Crenshaw, and Earnestine Reed; brothers, Aurthur McVay, Jr, JC McVay, and Earl McVay; grandsons, Gregory Tubbs and Jeffery Tubbs, Sr

Through her union with Earnest Tubbs, Sr, Liberay leaves to cherish her memories:

One devoted daughter, Elizabeth Long Shields of Tuscaloosa, AL; two loving sons, Earnest Tubbs, Jr (Willie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Nathaniel Tubbs of Greensboro, AL; four grandchildren, Sabrina Roberts (Willie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Laurice Graves (Eric) of Orlando, FL, Quentin Lee (Anita) of Oxford, AL, and LaQuisha Spralling of Chattanooga, TN; six sisters, Gladys McVay, Janice McKanney, Linda Harkness (Robert), Ollie Lee, Carol Barron, and Mullen McVay Madison all of Tuscaloosa, AL. She has a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
