IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Eugene
Williamson
April 15, 1952 – December 21, 2025
Larry Eugene Williamson, age 73 of Samantha, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service will be held at Selem Baptist Church, New Lexington, on January 3rd. Visitation 10-12; service 12:00 p.m. with Bro, Clyde Stevens and Bro. Joe Jones officiating.
Larry was the first born to Johnny Lewis Williamson and Doris Rebecca Wyatt Williamson. He attended Ettecea Elementary School and graduated from Northside High School in 1970.
Following graduation, he worked a short time on the pipelines in Texas, but his lifelong career was as a logger and owner of LW Logging. He achieved the status of PLM (Professional Logger Manager) through Alabama Forestry Association which strives to improve the practice of sustainable forestry. He enjoyed operating a chainsaw, making comments that it was an extension of his arm and that he loved looking back and seeing the saw dust while cutting trees. Because of his work ethic, motivation and toughness, in the CB radio era, he was given the handle “Pine Knot” by his friends and co-workers.
Larry loved life and approached it with exuberance. He was hyper with endless energy. He woke up every morning with motivation to go to work. He was a man on the move and was always on a mission or starting a new project. He would say, “I had a brainstorm” and a new creation was born. He was interested in others and kept a pen and a tiny pad in his front pocket for names and phone numbers and notes of his thoughts.
He loved music, especially country and gospel. He was a walking Encyclopedia with details on artists and songwriters. We recently gathered for a game of “Let’s Stump Larry” where we asked music trivia questions. The game was fun, but there were no questions he didn’t know the answers to. He took piano lessons in his early years but could play both piano and guitar by ear.
Larry lived life out loud. He had a charm and charisma that caused people to gravitate to him. He would give his last dime and accepted everyone, especially those looked down on by society. He was an avid storyteller. Not stories made up but telling stories he experienced with family and friends. He was expressive and theatrical.
He was very social and after his illness took away his ability to work, he started a visitation ministry (his term) where he would visit the sick and shut in. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and began attending the Friday lunch group even on days he did not physically feel up to it.
Larry was predeceased by his father, Johnny Lewis Williamson.
He is survived by his wife Danita Williamson. Together they shared four daughters, Julie Williamson Hoover (Chris), Tricia Williamson Deluna (Ed), Alicia Edmondson Bynum (Thomas), and Anita Edmondson Billings (Eric); three sons, Justin Williamson, Jeff Williamson and Joseph Edmondson (Julia), 17 grandchildren, Antonio (Samantha), Mikayla, Tyler (Cassidy), Joe, Allie, Jarett, Stormy, Kenzi, Becca, Bree, Ethan, Hadley, Sydney, Liam, Andrew, Laura Beth and Anna; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving mother, Doris Williamson; two sisters, Phyllis Williamson Olive (Ken), Becky Williamson Martin (Benny); two brothers, Ricky Williamson (LaWanda) and Ken Williamson (Michelle); and a host of nephews, nieces and other extended family who love him dearly.
Pallbearers will be Shane Smith, Dex Stanley, Russell Olive, Matt Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Norris, Chauncy Vickers, Jimmy Rogers, Paul Koster, Randy & Joyce Watson, Glen Davis, Randy Cannon, Big Al’s Restaurant, Salem’s Friday Lunch Club, Northside High School Class of 1970, Todd Gilliam, Layton Jones, Dane Blumthal, Terry Joe Oswalt, Jon Alexander, Bro. Joe Jones, Nathan Jones, Bro. Clyde and Wanda Stevens, Dr. Hinton and staff at Manderson Cancer Center, Dr. Shekar , a host of friends and family and the Samantha Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ramp Ministry at Salem Baptist Church, P.O. Box 73, Samantha, Alabama 35482, continuing Larry’s legacy of service and compassion.
