It is with both heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life well-lived that we share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, Johnny Michael "Mike" Honeycutt of Tuscaloosa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Honeycutt and Kathleen Davis Honeycutt; brothers Barry Honeycutt, James "Bo" Honeycutt; sister Gloria Honeycutt Davis, brother-in-law and best friend Ronald "Joe" Taylor.

He is survived by his daughters Haley Honeycutt Norris (Jason) and Lindsey Honeycutt Deal (Steven); grandchildren Nicholas "Newt" Norris, Neely Norris, William Deal, Robert Deal, Taylor Deal; sister-in-law Tawana Taylor; and his very beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Mike was a true Southern gentleman—warm, dignified, loyal, devoted, and full of heart. He was the proud father of two daughters, who adored him deeply and saw him as their unwavering hero. His strength, kindness, and constant encouragement shaped their lives in the most profound ways. He never missed an opportunity to express his love for them.

But if there was one role Mike cherished most in life, it was being “Papa” to his five grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he spoiled them with boundless affection, loving presence, unshakeable support, and of course an endless supply of candy. Whether it was baseball or basketball games and tournaments, soccer matches, dance recitals, gymnastics showcases, school awards ceremonies, or Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre productions, Papa was always there—cheering the loudest, smiling the widest, and beaming with pride. His grandchildren absolutely adored him, and the bond they shared was something truly special.

Mike was a proud graduate of Holt High School Class of 1970 and served his country with honor in the Army Reserves. From the age of 15, he worked in the grocery business, dedicating his entire career to an industry he loved and where he formed lifelong friendships. He rose through the ranks with hard work, humility, and a gift for leadership. He was respected and admired by his colleagues and beloved by his employees—many of whom became like family over the years.

A man who truly embraced life, Mike had many passions. He was an avid golfer who proudly competed in—and won—numerous tournaments. He was a dedicated Alabama sports fan and never missed a chance to cheer on the Crimson Tide at football, basketball, baseball, and softball games. He also spent a few years as a member of the Quarterback Club and attended Jesters Mardi Gras balls.

He especially treasured time spent with friends—the weekly “Board Meetings” at Harry’s on Thursdays with his fellow "board members" and long weekly lunches with his closest friends brought him joy. He often spoke of how grateful he was to be surrounded by the best friends a man could ask for.

Mike’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa and rarely missed a Sunday service until the final stages of his illness.

Mike’s legacy lives on through his two daughters and five grandchildren, whose lives are richer for having been loved by him. He was a man of great integrity, a loyal friend, a fierce protector, a gentle encourager, and above all, a loving father and devoted Papa.

We will miss him deeply—but we rejoice in the incredible gift of his life.
