Jeanette Foley

September 17, 1935 — July 4, 2023

Jeanette Wheat Foley, 87, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. passed away on July 4, 2023, at Hospice of West Alabama. Mrs. Foley will have a graveside service on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Memory Hill Gardens with Mr. Robert Burns officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents Grover and Leona Hallman, husbands Norman Wheat and Ervin (Buddy) Foley, daughter Charlotte Lucky, sister Evon Hartley, nephew Mike Jones, and daughter-in-law Sherry Wheat. Survivors include her son Dennis Wheat, daughters Becky Brewer (John), Carolyn Guy, aunt Louise Dill, niece Sandra Jones, nephew Joe Hardy (Pollye), special cousin Linda Martin (Sid), and Roy Sanchez (Ann), who was like a son to her.

Jeanette was a gifted seamstress whose exquisite draperies were sought after by decorators and customers across the state. She spent hours in her workroom skillfully transforming bolts of fabric into beautiful works of art. Her eye for detail and craftsmanship were unmatched.

She found peace in tending to her yard, where azaleas flourished, and the hummingbird feeders were always filled. Jeanette’s yard was also a favorite spot for the many deer she fed corn to each night. As her health declined, her neighbor, Richard Swindal, took over this ritual and is still keeping her deer fed. Her affinity for animals knew no bounds, and her home was a sanctuary for countless cats, dogs, and birds over the years.

Jeanette was a member of Holten Heights Church of The Nazarene.

Jeanette’s family sends a heartfelt thank you to caretakers Jackie Booker, Lucille Bailey, Ernestine Johnson, Jackie Aaron, Tempera Jenkins, Aretha Ward, and the caring staff at Morning Pointe. A special thanks to Dr. Gene Alldredge, the staff at DCH, and Mike Echols.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, July 8 at 10:30 AM at Memory Hill Gardens with Robert Burns officiating. Pallbearers are Roy Sanchez, John Brewer, Sid Martin, Richard Swindal, and Heath Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of West Alabama.
