James “Jimmy” David Mills of Fayette, Alabama passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026 at the age of 92 with his loving son and daughter by his side. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. (Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville with Norwood-Wyatt Chapel of Fayette directing).

He was preceded in death by his wife Annette Tomlin Mills, infant son David Russell Mills, parents Harold and Margaret Ezell Mills, and sister Ellen Mills Morrison (Dolphus),

Survivors include his daughter Marilyn Mills Burdette (Mark), son James Lynn Mills, grandchildren; Kelly Mills and Dylan Mills Lett (Jacob), and great grandchild Indy Lavendar Lett.

Born in Moundville, Alabama, Jimmy spent most of his childhood surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles. He often spoke about all of the wonderful memories while growing up. It was always a pleasure listening to him recall his childhood adventures.

Jimmy was a United States Naval veteran who served honorably during Operation “Ivy Mike”, which was the code name given to the first full-scale test of a thermonuclear device in the Marshall Islands during the early 1950's.

Above all, Jimmy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a very humble, honest, and gentle man. Because of these and other admirable traits, he will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
