Imogene Richards

July 4, 1930 — December 7, 2020

Imogene Leonard Richards of Kennedy, Alabama passed away December 7, 2020 at the age of 90. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, known to all as Granna. Imogene was born July 4, 1930 in Millport, Alabama to the late Leander and Mattie Atkins Leonard. She graduated from Millport High School and attended the University of Alabama. She married Fred Richards in 1950 and lived the rest of her life in Kennedy, where she was an active member of Kennedy Baptist Church. She enjoyed a long career in education at Kennedy and South Lamar Schools. Later in life, she pursued her true passion, collecting and selling antiques. She took great pleasure in finding an old treasure and passing it on to others in her own antique booth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings Leon Leonard and Merle Weldon. She is survived and will be forever loved by her children, Pam Richards Bell (Johnny) of Albany, Georgia and Jeff Richards (Debbie) of Belk; her granddaughters, Meredith Bell Zadnichek (Miles) of Atlanta, Jessica Richards Gressett (Trent) of Dothan, and Anna Leigh Richards Daniel (James) of Birmingham; her great grandchildren, Harvey Drake Gressett, Edith Grace Zadnichek, and Murray Hope Gressett; and a host of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11 am at the Kennedy Cemetery with social distancing and masks required. Reverend Terry McAdams will officiate. Pallbearers are James Wise Daniel IV, Trent Gressett, Miles Zadnichek, Larry Barrett, Bill Dorroh, and Frank Dorroh. Honorary pallbearer is Andy Wharton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
