Huey Deslattes

Huey Deslattes, age 90 of Tuscaloosa, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at DCH Regional Medical Center. There will be a graveside service officiated by Father Michael Deering but will be limited to close family. There will be a memorial mass and reception at Holy Spirit Catholic Church once the Corona Virus has waned. To celebrate the life of Mr. Deslattes, there will be an online rosary for him Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. The family will be doing the Joyful Mysteries. Please join the family online or independently. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Frank Deslattes; mother, Claire Louise Roussel Deslattes; sisters, Lois Hoffmann (Kenneth) and Dorothy Smalley (Noah); brothers, Calvin Deslattes (Mildred) and Melvin Deslattes. Mr. Deslattes is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sue Hardin Deslattes; daughter, Vickie Jean Deslattes Davis (Michael); sons, Joseph Huey Deslattes (Linda) and Larry Franklin Deslattes (Robert Engh); sister-in-law, Dot Deslattes; and grandchildren, Stephen Ellis Davis, Chelsea Therese Flesch, Trevor James Flesch, and Zachary Franklin Davis. Huey was a man of great faith and devotion to God and his family. He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Marine Corp and past Grand Knight and Fourth Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Council 4083. Huey and Sue married when she was just seventeen and he was twenty, they were planning to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in September. Huey began his career with A&P and after his service in the Marines he continued at A&P and later Piggly Wiggly and Summit Food Center which he subsequently purchased with two partners and renamed Northgate Discount Foods. After retirement, he continued to serve the community through the Knights of Columbus and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He worked hard to provide for his wife and family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Pallbearers are Stephen Davis, Zachary Davis, TJ Flesch, Bryce Duncan, Robert Engh, and Douglas Deslattes. Honorary pallbearers are Julie and Tommy Townsend, Knights of Columbus Council 4083 and Ladies Auxiliary, Carley and Haley Thompson, Scottie and Kathryn Hardin, members of Holy Spirit Church and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church building fund.
