Gregory Hill, age 79 of Fayette, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, January 06, 2026, in Fayette County. There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, January 10, 2025, at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Fayette, Alabama, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Church Scattering Garden. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.
Greg is preceded in death by his father; Charles William Hill, mother; Ruth Robertson Hill, and brother; Charles William Hill II.
He is survived by his wife; Deborah Hill of Fayette, AL, daughter; Abigail Hill (Sam) Stanton of Asheville, NC, step-daughter; Melanie (Jared) Enget of Hendersonville, TX, sons; Gregory William Hill of Austin, TX, Joshua Andrew (Grace) Hill of Houston, TX, and Jeremy Michael Hill of Houston, TX, step-sons; Ely (Jennifer) Odenwelder of Hernando, MS, and Matt (Kristina) Odenwelder of Galveston, TX, and 4 granddaughters and 14 grandsons.
Greg Hill was born in Miami, Florida and attended Miami Dade Highschool. Afterwards, he served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. His service to his country was a defining chapter of his life; the discipline, strength and sense of duty gained through military service remained with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Greg attended University of North Carolina graduating with a bachelor's degree in English literature. Early work life involved risk management insurance specialist and an offset printing business. The last part of Greg's work life was spent teaching fourth and fifth grade students at Cunae International School in The Woodlands, Texas. He lived in Houston, Texas for 36 years before moving to Fayette in 2015. In 2001, he married the love of his life, Deborah. He was a proud father of four children: Gregory, Josh, Jeremy, Abbey and three stepchildren: Melanie, Ely, Matt and eighteen grandchildren - fourteen grandsons and four granddaughters - who brought him great joy and purpose.
Greg was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous celebrating 37 years of sobriety in March of 2025. He was an invaluable aid to many on their journey to a clean and sober life. He believed in contributing to his immediate community and society as a whole, was an active member of numerous community organizations, his church and outreach programs.
Greg will be remembered for his service, his integrity, acts of kindness and his unwavering commitment to family, friends and country.
