Geraldine Gay Palmer

Geraldine Gay Palmer, age 79 of Fayette, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Services will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at McConnell Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Burial will follow the service at Bankhead Cemetery. Mrs. Geraldine Gay Palmer was born March 7, 1943, in Fayette, AL to the union of Jimmy Lee Gay and Minnie Ree McConnell Gay. Geraldine confessed Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Fayette, AL., and later moved her membership to McConnell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Fayette, AL. Geraldine attended Fayette County Training School, Fayette, AL and graduated in 1961. While attending Fayette County Training School, she was elected as part of the Homecoming Court as Ms. Dream-Boat. She was part of Drama Club and participated in many school dramatizations. She was also a member of the School Choir. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Tobby Palmer, who preceded her in death. Geraldine enjoyed cooking, experimenting with different recipes, and giving orders. She enjoyed arts and crafts and collecting antiques. She was queenly fashionable with her clothing and hats. She was employed with L B’s Bar-B-Q for many years and later worked for Charles Cafeteria until she retired. Geraldine was a faithful member of McConnell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church until her health failed. She served as a Trustee, Leader of Leaders, Pastor Aide, Church Choir, and member of the WHOM Society. Geraldine was a resident of the Arlington Rehabilitation Facility in Birmingham, AL until the time of her demise. On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the Arlington Rehabilitation Facility, God gently closed Geraldine’s eyes and she awakened in His presence. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers: Martin Oglen and James Oglen. She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Ashely Palmer, Berry, AL; one brother, Arthur Lee Gay of Fayette, AL; one granddaughter, Katelyn Palmer of Berry, AL; and one grandson, Darvis Palmer of Tuscaloosa, AL, and a host of relatives and friends.
