Rev. Elzo Bevan

October 14, 1922 — December 4, 2017

Elzo Bevan, age 95 of Eufaula, formerly of Berry, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017. The service will be Friday, December 8, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Berry Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Bevan and his son, Billy M. Bevan. Elzo is survived by his daughters Carolyn Sue Williams (Shawn) and Charlotte Ann Bevan; sons, Ralph Stephen Bevan (Angela) and Paul Gregory Bevan (Rochelle); sister, Velma Bozeman; brother, Raymond Bevan; thirteen grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Bevan. Elzo was one of ten children born to Wiley and Ida Bevan. In 1943 he was drafted into the war. He was trained as a radio operator and flew thirty-one successful missions before being shot down. He was wounded and a prisoner of war from 9/11/1944 until liberated on 5/3/1945. After the war, he and his wife were both saved in a revival. About a year later, he answered the call to preach and did so for the next seventy years. During his ministry he built several churches including Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Woodbridge, VA. Where he preached to more than 400 each Sunday and saw a great harvest of souls.
