Elizabeth Vance

February 5, 1932 — August 2, 2019

Elizabeth Bertrand Stilwell Vance, 87, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. August 5, 2019 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Father Frank Muscolino officiating, and Norwood-Wyatt Funeral Home directing. Following the service, the family invites friends to a reception at Elmwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Stilwell and Elsie Landers Stilwell Grayson and stepfather, Cecil Grayson; sister, Helen LeBaron; and son, Robert William Vance III “Bill”. Born in 1932 in Birmingham, Elizabeth attended Phillips High School and Birmingham Southern College. She and her husband of 70 years, Robert William Vance, Jr. “Bob”, who affectionately called her “Libby”, lived for many years in Birmingham, where Elizabeth worked as administrative assistant to Dr. Chestley L. Yelton at UAB and as administrative assistant to Dr. Cemil Cezayirli and office manager for the Frank Kay Clinic. Bob and Elizabeth lived in Savannah, GA, for 10 years before retiring to Tuscaloosa. They also enjoyed vacationing for 42 wonderful years at their cabin in Sunnyside Beach, Florida. Elizabeth served on the Board of the Savannah Chamber Music Society. Most recently, she volunteered with the Tuscaloosa Library bookstore and with the University of Alabama School of Music. In addition to her husband, Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Linda Dunn (Bud) of Tuscaloosa; sons, Mike (Kay) of Arley, AL, and Tim (Kathy) of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Andrew (Melanie) of Winston-Salem, NC, Nicholas (Nicole) of Charlotte, NC, Connor of Boston, MA, and Patrick of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Logan Vance and Ivy Elizabeth Vance. Elizabeth attended St. Francis of Assisi University Parish Church in Tuscaloosa. Special thanks to Dr. Sumil Chandra, nurses at Northport Hospital, and the entire staff at Hospice of West Alabama.
