Douglas Roland Wooten, Sr. passed away on July 31, 2026 at Morning View Estates Assisted Living, Fayette, Alabama. He was 90 years old. Visitation is on Monday evening from 6-8pm, August 3, and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 11am, at Norwood-Wyatt Funeral Home in Fayette, AL, 707 Temple Ave. N, Fayette, AL 35555. Masonic Rites and Burial will immediately follow at Fayette Memorial Gardens, Fayette, AL.

He was born on January 2, 1936 at home in New England, Georgia to Ernest Wooten and Bernice Elizabeth (Gifford) Wooten-Johnson.

He married Christeen Porter who proceeded him in death in 1997. Together they had three children. Our dad found love again in 2010 when he married Iva Gardner of Fayette, AL, owner of The Music Corner and AL Hall of Famer for Music, and they enjoyed 16 wonderful years together. He was a self-educated man, learning trades and building furniture and whatever was needed to make life better. He was a sharp mind with a keen eye. Doug worked in the carpet industry from 1964-1993, from Georgia to Southern California and worked from the entry level position in the industry until promoting to Vice President due to his work ethic, industrious mind, and dedication.

Doug loved to sing and entertain, initially in impersonating Elvis for his company’s promotions, to singing and entertaining at dances with his new bride, Iva. He loved old cars and enjoyed participating in car shows with his 1943 Willys Jeep, which has been passed on to his son, Doug, Jr.

Doug will be remembered for his jokes (both good and bad) his good humor, love of road trips and travel, his love of family, and the great love of ice cream, which he passed on to all of his children and grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, sister and brother Helen Cline and Joseph P. Cox, his first wife, Christeen, and Frankie Gifford.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Gardner-Wooten, children Terry (Wayne) Kessinger of Carbondale, IL, Crystal Garcia, Doug Wooten, Jr., both of Southern California, Grandchildren Alanna (Jeremy) Oster, Bloomington, IL, Adam (Chareassa) Kessinger, North Ogden, UT, Miranda Garcia, NYC, NY, Douglas Wooten, III, Riverside, CA and Franchesca Wooten, Chino, CA. Seven grandchildren, Elias, Josiah and Amila Oster, Ethan and Lillian Kessinger, and Sienna and Serene Nunez. Additional surviving family members include the Candy and Tim Garner family, cousins MaryAnn and Terry O’Neill, who were extremely kind and helpful with cars and when they came to take their cat, JoJo, home with them, and Loretta Avans, all of Sand Mountain, AL. Doug was a member of New England Baptist Church, New England, Georgia, and was a Mason.

The family wants to express a sincere appreciation to all of the staff of MorningView Estates, you have been so kind to our dad and step-mom and to us, and to Dr. and Bonita Nolan, thank you for your care and friendship over the years.

Pallbearers will be Wayne and Adam Kessinger, Alanna, Jeremy, and Elias Oster, Doug Wooten, III, and Terry O’Neal.
