Douglas “Doug” Richard Woods, age 63, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away July 6, 2025, after a battle of brain cancer. Services will be Monday, July 21st, at The Church at Tuscaloosa at 2:00PM. Reception to follow. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.
He was preceded in death by his father James Edward “Ed” Woods.
He is survived by his wife Jill Johnson Woods; Children, Turner Woods Cargile (Cody), Caitlyn Woods Adams (Brooks), Sarah Corbett Woods, and John Douglas Woods; Grandchildren, James Wales Cargile, James Barrett Adams, Nona Douglas Cargile; Mother, Sharon Watson Woods; Brother, Scott Edward Woods (Lisa); and a host of other relatives.
Doug was born in Rochester, NY and grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL where he attended Tuscaloosa Academy and later went on to college at LSU where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity. He graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. He met the love of his life, Jill, on a blind date in 1983 and was married in February of 1987. They lived in Atlanta where Doug worked at Data Management Corporation, BellSouth Mobility Inc., ADT Security Systems, International Cellulose Corporation, Wilmington Paper Corporation and started their family until they moved back to Tuscaloosa in 1996. In 1996, Doug joined Dixie Pulp & Paper Inc. as part owner and served as Vice President of the company for almost 29 years. He participated in various charity events sponsored by Dixie’s customers and suppliers and built strong relationships with his clients and co-workers treating them as friends and family. Doug was an active member of the Paperboard Packaging Council managing the J. Edward Woods Scholar Award in honor of his father. He was also a member and the VP of the Tuscaloosa Shooting Sports gun club.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, friends, co-workers and customers. He had many hobbies such as cooking, photography, motorcycles, paddle boarding, hiking, but most of all he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife and family. His Fall was spent enjoying his beloved LSU Tigers football. He especially loved having cocktails with friends in his bar and early morning coffee with his dogs, Caymus and Bruno.
