Dessie Nichols

March 3, 1920 — October 5, 2018

Dessie Ree Woods Nichols, age 98 of Fayette, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018. Services will be held Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home with Carson Nichols officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fayette Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Terrell Houston Woods and Lola Ethel Miles; her husband, Aubrine Nichols; two sisters, and two brothers; and daughter-in-law, Judy Nichols. Dessie Ree was a member of Mt. Olive Church of Christ. She was a teacher and graduate at Florence State Teachers College, now University of North Alabama, and formerly taught at Kirkland School. Dessie was a former member of UDC, DAR, Garden Club, and Progress Club. Her greatest loves were God, granddaddy, grandchildren, gardening, and gospel singing. Dessie Ree is survived by two daughters, Meredith Newton (Robert) of Fayette, and Glennette Taylor (Gene) of Tuscaloosa; three sons, Wilton Nichols (Shelia), Julius Nichols, and Jerome Nichols (Robin) all of Fayette; thirteen grandchildren, Allison Salter, Julie Hunter, Elana Brister, Adrienne Richardson, Natalie Reddington, Rosalinde Woods, Justin Nichols, Adam Nichols, Carson Nichols, Suzanne Stagner, Leah Bass, Kayla Reddick, and Kirk Barnette; and eighteen great-grandchildren, Frances Richardson, Luke Richardson, Caroline Reddington, Hayes Reddington, Cecilia Reddington, Asher Reddington, Millan Woods, Daniel Salter, Oliver Salter, Lola Salter, Emily Hunter, Sam Hunter, Beau Brister, Melanie Brister, Desiree Brister, Sara Kathryn Nichols, Jana Nichols, Ella Grace Nichols, Noah Nichols, Oakleigh Nichols, Emma Barnette, Pierce Barnette, Hawk Bass, Lou Ella Bass, and Britton Stagner. The family wishes to express their gratitude to care givers, Ms. Debbie Ardiano, Candis Mitchell, and Hospice of Northwest Alabama. Pallbearers are Adam Nichols, Justin Nichols, Clint Stagner, Kevin Bass, Brian Brister, and Luther Richardson.
