Clarence Calvin Upton, son of the late Clarence and Deseree, nee Lowery, of Berry, AL. Beloved husband of the late Linda Ann, nee Taylor, and devoted partner of Phyllis Gallimore passed away at his home on Feb 4, 2026 in Chicago. Calvin was born on February 28, 1940 in rural Berry, Alabama. He migrated north to Chicago in 1953 where he eventually met and married the love of his life Linda Ann.

A loving father of Tammy (Philip) Sammarco of Chicago, IL, Johnny Ray (Karen) Upton of Cornersville, TN, and Craig (Gina) Upton of Des Plaines, IL. Cherished Papa of Amanda (Chris), Andrew (Teresa), Alec (Joanna), Linda (Adam), Lindsey (Anthony), Kendall, and Kaleigh. Proud Big Papa of Finlay, Harris, Vincent, Theodore, Jasper, Augustin, Levi, Winona, and Leo Calvin with 2 more expected this year. Proceeded in death by his siblings; Dorothy (Owen) Anderson, Yvonne (Danny) Pilkington, William “Bo” (Bette) Upton, Johnny (Rose) Upton and Gail (Dean) Wolfe.

He was an adored uncle and cousin to many near and far. “Cal” worked at S&C Electric Company for 38 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector and participated in the company bowling and softball leagues then grabbing many beers with friends. In his retirement in 2002 he focused on family showing his devotion by providing his calligraphy and drafting skills for anyone - he could always design a better way. “Calabama” never lost touch with his roots and loved Alabama Football. He will be missed by many, many friends and family. Roll Tide!

Chicago visitation is on Monday, February 9th from 3-8pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, IL 60646. Alabama services will be held at Norwood Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home, 707 Temple Ave N, Fayette, AL 35555, on February 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Berry, AL. Serving as Pallbearers; David Wolfe, Doug Pilkington, Derek Upton, Larry Burns, Amanda Bradburn, Linda Milibrandt, Alec Sammarco and Lindsey Upton.

In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Research Hospital.
