Carolyn P. Stewart was born and spent a majority of her life in the Fosters, Alabama area. After graduating from Tuscaloosa County High School, Carolyn envisioned a life of being a wife and mother to her son, Randy, and two daughters, Jackie and Denise. After life threw her a curve ball, she joined the work force, going to work at Bryce Hospital, where she worked for more than 25 years before retiring. Married to James O. Stewart for more than 57 years, Carolyn proved to be a loving wife and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Growing up, she attended Bethel Baptist Church from childhood to her adult years until she and James moved their membership to First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There she served in the children’s ministry for more than two decades, caring for children (mostly babies) in the church’s nursery. She also worked in the church’s Child Development Program (CDP) where for many years she rocked, changed, sang to, and loved on those babies as if they were her own.
After an extended battle with illness that few knew she was enduring, she passed peacefully at her Northport, Alabama residence with several family members by her side. While sad, we rejoice that our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, many people has finally crossed the threshold into eternity and has been embraced in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by Howard Owens Poole (Father), Zelma Campbell Burns (Mother), William Owen Poole (Brother), Howard Eugene “Gene” Poole (Brother), Steven Wittke (Grandson).
She is survived by her husband; James O. Stewart, Daughters; Jacqueline “Jackie” Kaye Glover and Karolyn Denise Glover, Son; Randolph “Randy” Guy Glover Jr. (Michele), Granddaughters; Heather Goff (Josh), Holly Taylor (Joseph), Kelsey Langley (Scooter), and Cortney Halper (Brock), Grandsons; Joey Glover (Whitney) and Jeffery Wittke (Rene); and 18 wonderful Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joey Glover, Josh Goff, Michael McGuire, Gary Poole, Joseph Taylor, Jeffery Wittke.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Staff of First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, AL; Staff of Child Development Program - First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, AL; Members of Margaret Jones’ Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, AL; Members of Bethel Baptist Church, Ralph, AL.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, a donation be made to the First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa Child Development Program (FBC CDP) in memory of Carolyn Stewart.
