Mr. James Curtis “Curt” Howton, age 81 of Berry, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Cleveland Church of Christ with Bro. Patrick Morrison and Bro. Miles Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Howton was born July 20, 1929 in Fayette the son of the late George Matthew and Geneva Patterson Howton. He was a life-long resident of Berry and a member of the Cleveland Church of Christ. Mr. Howton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired coal miner from Chevron Mining Inc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lela Mae “Jimmie” Howton. Survivors include his wife, Betty Milligan Howton of Berry; two daughters, Pat (Kenneth) Lewis of Tuscaloosa and Wanda (Tommy) Moore of Fayette; step-daughters, Tina (Homer) McClinton of Oakman, Rhonda (Jeff) Parker and Shonda (James) Keeton of Berry; one son, Tim (Gail) Howton of Gadsden; step-sons, Jeffrey (Melinda) Milligan, Scotty(Kim) Milligan and Eric (Tonya) Milligan of Berry; 26 Grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jo Howton of Northport. Active pallbearers are John Miller, Jason Miller, Rusty McKinley, James Moore, Joseph Moore, Eddie Mayfield and T.C. Howton. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, step-grandchildren, Union Brothers, Chevron Mining, Dr. Ross Vaughn, Hospice of Fayette, Cleveland Family and Berry Community. Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing.
