Myrlee Wallace Newman

August 14, 1927 — July 26, 2010

Myrlee Wallace Newman, known to most by Nanny, passed away at her home on July 26, 2010. The angels rejoiced along with family members waiting there for her arrival. She was 82 at the time of her death. The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 28th at 2:00 p.m at Norwood Chapel with Bro. Billy Carl Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00- p.m. at the funeral home. Myrlee was preceded in death by her parents, Gus Sanders and Jessie Sanders Foster; her husbands, Leon Wallace and Grady (Pap) Newman; her daughter, Linda Wallace Campbell and sister, Mildred Sanders Watkins. Survivors include her daughter, Cecelia (CC) Wallace Woodard and her husband Charlie Woodard of Jasper, Alabama, referred by Myrlee as “my son”; special grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Valerie Moore of Fayette, Alison Moore of Northport, Alabama, and Hunter Campbell of Fort Collins, Colorado; extra special great grandchildren, Holly and Sarah Moore of Fayette; one sister Marie (Bill) Kratohvil of Sumiton and brother James Rayford (Nannette) Sanders of Curry; several sweet nieces, nephews, cousins; special close friends; and those whom she “claimed” as kin. She worked at the Fayette Cotton Mill for about 20 years and then another 20 at Sterilon. After retirement she worked at Tiny Tots, the Bevill Campus Cafeteria, and as a very happy door greater at Wal-Mart. All who knew Myrlee (Nanny) would remember her for the kindness she always showed to everyone. There was never an individual that was too mean, dirty, stinky or pitiful, that she didn’t go out of her way to speak to them, make them feel special and comfortable. Even though her battle was short, her faith was strong. In the mist of pain and suffering she would compliment nurses and visitors on how nice they looked or how sweet they were. Myrlee always put others ahead of herself. She was a good Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched will forever remember her fondly. Myrlee enjoyed the outside, as she put it more than anything indoors. She loved to work in the yard and plant flowers. In the spring her many colors of azaleas adorned the hillside. Another thing she loved was Southern Gospel and good old time country singing. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Boswell, whom she thought the sun rose and sat in, his nurse Carrie; Hospice of the Fayette Medical Center, employees of Winfield Medical Center, Winfield Swing Bed and the Ridgeview Nursing Home of Jasper.
