Johnny A. Fields, age 78 of Fayette, passed away peacefully Monday, February 18, 2019 at home with family. Funeral services will be Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at El Bethel Buncomb Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roise Fields; son, Rickey Fields; sisters, Sally Robertson and FloeLee Tidwell; and brother, Ollen Fields. Johnny is survived by his wife, Martha Jewel Fields of Fayette; daughter, Kathy Ann Fields of Fayette; sons, Jonathan Fields and Gregory David Fields both of Fayette; sisters, Mary Dudley of Fayette, Nadine Knight of Winfield, and Bobbie Dixon of Fayette; and grandchildren, Leighton Jane Fields and Reagan Mackenzie Fields both of Fayette. Johnny was born on April 1, 1940 in Alabama to Fred and Roise Fields. He had to stop going to school at an early age to help his family in the fields. He married Martha J. White on March 1, 1963 in Fayette. He worked as a logger and owned Fields Logging. He had three sons and one daughter. In 1995, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, in which he had two thirds of his stomach removed and several rounds of chemo. He dropped from two hundred twenty pounds to one hundred twenty pounds. When he got back on his feet, he went back to work when others said he wouldn’t. Johnny would out work men less than half his age. In 2012, he had open heart surgery with two bypasses and six days later, he was home. While in the hospital, he learned that he was going to be a pawpaw at age 72. At the age of 74 his last grandchild was born. Both were his granddaughters but the youngest, Reagan, was the favorite and could do no wrong. Besides logging, he trucked farmed which he did until the end. If two words could sum Daddy up, it would be hard-working.
