Sara Kate Sullivan

November 1, 1931 — January 24, 2017

Sara Kate Sullivan, age 85, of the Belk community passed away Tuesday morning following an extended illness. Surrounded by family and friends during her final days, Sara Kate, or Maw Maw Kate, as she was so fondly called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, peacefully crossed over to the glory land to be with the Heavenly Father. Services will be Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Al Hamm officiating at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Sullivan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Having worked in retail and customer service most of her life, she firmly believed in the principles of hard work, honesty, integrity, loyalty and respect. She led by example for all to follow. In her spare time and during her retirement she enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her flowers, cultivating bounty after bounty from her vegetable gardens, spending time with her friends at Belk Kountry Kitchen, Belk Community Center and loved having her hair done at Becky’s Beauty Shop. She also loved gospel music. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. And, her family, each individual member, will tell you they are better people for having the honor and privilege of calling her mother, grandmother and sister. She had the greatest capacity to love so much and everyone loved her in return. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Shirley Harold Sullivan; parents, Dollie Mae and Herbert Caraway; and sister, Christine Craig. She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey Harold Sullivan (Kim) of Fayette, Joel Dwayne Sullivan (Sherry) of Holly Pond and Rodney Allen Sullivan (Janice) of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Kayla Sullivan Parker (Brad), Kyle Sullivan, Dex Sullivan (Shay), Dalton Sullivan and Heather Sullivan; great grandchildren, Kaitlin Parker, Kinsley Parker, Annie Parker and Jonathan Wells Sullivan; sisters, Ann Waldrop (Joe Lane), Carolyn Stough (Guy), Marguerite Hamner (Bruce) and Julia Holliman; brothers, Jimmy Caraway (Judi) and Gene Caraway (Norma); sister-in-law, Barbara Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Dex Sullivan, Kyle Sullivan, Dalton Sullivan, Brad Parker, Jeff Taylor and Tommy Davis.
