John "Buzzy" Morgan

John V. “Buzzy” Morgan of Auburn passed away Wednesday morning October 19, 2016 at his home. Buzzy was born in Fayette to the late Emily Freeman and Joe Vernon Morgan on March 9, 1932. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Sarah Renfro and Nell Kirkley. He is survived by his son Joey (Betty) Morgan of Huntsville, grandson James Edward “Jay” Morgan of Childersburg, sister Brenda Jones of Tuscaloosa and many devoted nieces and nephews. Throughout Buzzy’s life he loved sports; especially football. He played at the high school and college level, as well as in the military. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1950, attended college on a football scholarship at both Itawamba Junior College and Livingston State Teachers College. He served in the US Army, received a Masters from Mississippi Southern and his AA from the University of Alabama. Buzzy’s coaching and teaching career began in 1956 at Choctaw County High School. He also coached at Millport High, Lamar County High, and Fayette County High. He has been inducted into both the Fayette County Hall of Fame and the Millport Sports Hall of Fame. After leaving Fayette, he started his administrative career as Principal at Sanford Junior High, Opelika, followed by Assistant Superintendent of Lee County Board of Education where he retired in 1990. Buzzy was loved and admired and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating. Visitation will be held at Norwood Chapel Funeral Home in Fayette, Alabama on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Interment to follow at Fayette City Cemetery. Frederick-Dean Funeral Home is directing. Norwood-Wyatt Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements in Fayette.
