JC Shepherd, age 85, of Berry, Alabama, died on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at his lifelong family home. Visitation will be at Norwood Chapel Funeral home in Fayette, Alabama on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A private graveside service will be held in the Berry Cemetery. Pastor Kathy Griffith will officiate. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Phelan and Linnie Mae Shepherd. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth Barnes Shepherd, his two sons, John Phillip Shepherd, William David Shepherd (Nancy), Granddaughters, Maryalice Shepherd Hocutt (Cody), Linnie Frances Shepherd, Hanna Vivian Shepherd, Grandson, Scott Shepherd, Great Grandchildren, Phillip Hughston Shepherd, John Coger Shepherd, and Ryder Dale Hocutt, nephews Clay Barnes and Will Barnes, and niece, Allyson Barnes Booth. JC was born on August 3, 1930 in Berry, Alabama at the home of his parents, Phelan and Linnie Mae Shepherd. JC continued the legacy of family banking by serving as President and CEO of the Bank of Berry, Bank of Parrish, and the Bank of Carbon Hill. JC was in the banking business for 49 years. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business from The University of Livingston University (The University of West Alabama). He served as a member of The Board of Trustees of Walker College (Bevill State Community College, Jasper). JC served his community by being a member of Berry Town Council, Lion’s Club, American Legion, and Berry Civic Center Foundation Board. He was named Berry Citizen of the year for his lifelong community service and support. He attended and supported Berry United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time at his family cabin at Yellow Creek. JC loved reading, fishing, and quail hunting. He also loved to travel throughout the United States and Europe. He especially loved the time he spent at his vacation home in Orange Beach, Alabama. He was a Tide Pride Supporter of Alabama Football and always looked forward to football season. He enjoyed attending all of the Alabama football games, but he especially loved traveling to the away games with his traveling group. JC was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and community leader. He will be truly missed by his family and friends who loved him. Pall Bearers will be John Shepherd, Clay Barnes, Will Barnes, Eric Barnes, Allen Henry, Lynn Henry, Mike Moore, Lawrence Brown, and Mark Wilson. The family would like to thank the special caregivers who were so loving and patient with JC.
