Vertus Corkerin

Mr. Vertus Corkerin, age 75 of Berry, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Hospice of West Alabama. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel with Bro. Bobby Pendley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. The visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Corkerin was born March 1, 1938 in Fayette County the son of the late Edwin “Buster” Corkerin and Christine Collins Corkerin. He was a resident of Samantha most of his life. Mr. Corkerin was a former Truck Driver. Survivors include his wife, Julie Corkerin of Berry; one daughter, Malissa Ligon (Damon) of Northport; four sons, Larry Corkerin of Northport, Brian Beard (Mandy) of Berry, Steven Beard (Jo Anna) of Berry, and Kevin Beard of Berry; two sisters, Marty Walker (Mel) of Northport and Mary Freeman of Trinity, AL; five brothers, Victor Corkerin (Patricia) of Berry, Tommy Corkerin of Berry, Paul “Doug” Corkerin of Panama City, FL, Joe David Corkerin (Ann) of Hoffman, OK, and Chris Corkerin of Berry; six grandchildren, Brandon Ligon, Morgan Beard, Bethany Beard, Peyton Beard, Gavin Beard and Connor Corkerin; one great grandchild, Bryant Beard. Pallbearers will be John Walker, Chase Gilliam, Mitch Freeman, Jeff West, Jeff Clark and Mel Walker.
