Mr. Davis Burns, age 84 of Fayette, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Fayette Medical Long Term Care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fayette Memorial Gardens cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Burns was born October 22, 1928 in Montgomery County Mississippi, to Oliver and Ella Edwards Burns. He was employed as a grocer, working several years for Piggly-Wiggly in Shaw, Mississippi. He was later self-employed as an electrician and owned and operated Burns Appliance and Electrical Service until his retirement. While in Shaw he was an active member of the Shaw Baptist Church where he served as a deacon from 1967-1999, served on various church committees, as well as Sunday School Superintendent. He was an active member of Rotary International, served as Scoutmaster of Troop 24- Boy Scouts of America, was elected as an Alderman and Mayor of Shaw, MS. He moved to Fayette, Alabama in 1999. Mr. Burns was an active member of the Fayette First Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, as well as an active member participant of the Church’s “Joy” Fellowship Group. Mr. Burns is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Gammill Burns of Fayette; his daughter, Karen Burns Davis (Lee) of Fayette and his granddaughter, Lee Ann Davis (fiancé Jack Nolen, III) of Fayette. Active pallbearers will be Greg Guenin, Tommy Davis, Merrell Nolen, Dr. Gene Deal, Clyde Stevens and Theron Nolen. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Ely Williams, Ralph Watson, Alva Grimsley, and Orie Knowlton. The family requests memorials be made to the Fayette First Baptist Church Library Fund.
