Patricia McNease McCrackin, age 81, of Fayette, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Benjamin Wilberne McNease and Alma Lee Wolfe McNease. She is survived by her sisters Mary McNease Kinard (Frank) of Columbia, SC, and Judith McNease James (William) of Charleston, IL; and by her children Margaret McCrackin George (Steve), of Meridian, MS; Benjamin Wilberne McCrackin (Danielle) of Corpus Christi, TX; Joseph Bonds McCrackin, of Fayette, AL; and Frank Wolfe McCrackin (Robin) of Eden Prairie, MN; two granddaughters: Rebecca Carolyn George; Mary Patricia George, and six grandsons: Steven Edward George, David McNease George, Daniel James McCrackin, Joseph Ryan McCrackin, Jonathan Patrick McCrackin and Cole Thomas McCrackin. Patricia, "Miss Pat," was born in Jasper, AL on January 10th, 1932, but lived in Fayette with her family as her father established a medical practice. She graduated with distinction from the University of Mississippi where she was president of the Mortar Board honor society, secretary of Pi Kappa Pi scholastic honor society, and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After receiving her B.S. in Pharmacy, she married Thomas Bonds McCrackin (Newberry, SC) in 1953 and settled in Fayette to raise her family and enjoy the company of many lifelong friends. She was a pharmacist at the Central Drug Store in Fayette for many years and later worked at Fayette County Hospital and Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper. As would be expected of a great mom, she possessed an enduring love for and pride in her children. A great teacher and supporter of her children, Pat always taught by example, showing them the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. She allowed them to find their way and gave them the confidence to succeed. She could always be found supporting their efforts in the stands of a game or the seat of a concert or at a school event. Pat enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling - especially to the beach and on Mississippi riverboat cruises with her sisters. An animal lover and generous supporter of wildlife groups, she often adopted stray animals. She was a keen sports fan and an avid reader, always enjoying a good game and a good book. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Fayette where she participated in many activities including the Altar Guild, chancel choir and handbell choir. She was also a member of the Music Study Club and Progress Club. "Miss Pat" was well known for her craftsmanship with needlepoint and cross- stitch. Many pieces of her handiwork adorn the church's sanctuary. Pallbearers are: Steven George (grandson), David George (grandson), Daniel McCrackin (grandson), Wayne Meherg, Daniel Williams, Daniel Brasher. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Fayette First United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org, 1-800-272-3900), or the Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org, 1-800-628-6860).
